Porter County Elections and Voter Registration

On July 1, 2019, Indiana House Enrolled Act 1217 took effect and reorganized how Porter County elections are conducted. Now, voter registration and management of the election process are combined in a new Elections and Registration Office.

The Elections and Registration Office Director and Assistant Director are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Porter County Clerk. The Director and Assistant Director must be of opposite political parties and their appointments must be approved by a bipartisan vote of the Board of Elections and Registration.

The Elections and Registration Office Director and Assistant Director shall each appoint one-half of any additional employees (Deputies) and their appointments and must be of opposite political parties. Their appointments must be approved by a bipartisan vote of the Board of Elections and Registration. The Office currently has two deputies of opposite political parties.

The Director, Assistant Director and their Deputies may NOT BE a relative of any indivdual that has the authority to appoint them.
