Poll Worker Information

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Poll Worker! The Porter County Board of Elections & Registration has established Vote Centers in Porter County.

Establishment of the Vote Centers will not change the actual roles of Poll Workers. We will still need your help! Continue reading to start the process of applying to become a regular Poll Worker, Student Poll Worker, Election Night Worker or Central County Worker.

Apply To Be A Poll Worker Online

To apply online, please choose the appropriate option below:

Whether you are a new poll worker or an experienced poll worker, you will need to complete the online poll worker application form to be considered.

The Chairs of the two major political parties have until October 16, 2024 to appoint poll workers. After October 16, 2024, the Elections & Registration office will fill any vacancies. You MAY INCREASE YOUR CHANCE of being appointed as a poll worker if you allow us to forward your application to the Chair of the political party you have declared in the application form.

In the online application form you can choose whether you want us to forward your application to the applicable Party Chair or not.

If you choose not to have your application forwarded to the applicable Party Chair, your application will be retained by the Elections & Registration Office. The Elections & Registration Office will only consider your application for poll worker vacancies after October 16, 2024.

If you are ages 18 or older, COMPLETE AND SUBMIT YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION HERE.

If you are age 16 or 17 and want to be a Poll Worker, you must have the approval of your parent or guardian; you must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Porter County; and, you must satisfactorily complete the required training class. If school is in session for Election Day, you must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; you must have written approval by your principal or, if you are educated at home, the approval of the individual responsible for your education. You will be provided with the necessary forms to meet these requirements, and it is your responsibility to assure that the forms are completed and returned to us on a timely basis or you will not be allowed to work at the polls.

The Elections & Registration office is also seeking Election Night and Central Count Workers. Hours are:

  • Election Night Worker: 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Election Day (November 5, 2024).
  • Central Count Worker: 6:45am to 6:45pm on Election Day (November 4, 2024).
